Source Text: Hebrew (WLC) 2 Kings 10:25:1 ⧉וַיְהִ֞יvayehiand it happened 2 Kings 10:25:2 ⧉כְּכַלֹּת֣וֹkekhalotowhen he finished 2 Kings 10:25:3 ⧉לַעֲשׂ֣וֹתlaasotto do or to offer 2 Kings 10:25:4 ⧉הָעֹלָ֗הhaolathe burnt offering 2 Kings 10:25:5 ⧉וַיֹּ֣אמֶרvayomerand he said 2 Kings 10:25:6 ⧉יֵ֠הוּאyehuJehu 2 Kings 10:25:7 ⧉לָרָצִ֨יםlaratsimto the runners or guards 2 Kings 10:25:8 ⧉וְלַשָּׁלִשִׁ֜יםvelashalishimand to the officers 2 Kings 10:25:9 ⧉בֹּ֤אוּboucome 2 Kings 10:25:10 ⧉הַכּוּם֙hakumstrike them 2 Kings 10:25:11 ⧉אִ֣ישׁisha man 2 Kings 10:25:12 ⧉אַל־יֵצֵ֔אalyetsilet him not go out 2 Kings 10:25:13 ⧉וַיַּכּ֖וּםvayakumand they struck them 2 Kings 10:25:14 ⧉לְפִי־חָ֑רֶבlefikharevby the edge of the sword 2 Kings 10:25:15 ⧉וַיַּשְׁלִ֗כוּvayashlikhuand they threw 2 Kings 10:25:16 ⧉הָֽרָצִים֙haratsimthe runners or guards 2 Kings 10:25:17 ⧉וְהַשָּׁלִשִׁ֔יםvehashalishimand the officers 2 Kings 10:25:18 ⧉וַיֵּלְכ֖וּvayelkhuand they went 2 Kings 10:25:19 ⧉עַד־עִ֥ירadiras far as the city 2 Kings 10:25:20 ⧉בֵּית־הַבָּֽעַל׃bethabaalthe house of Baal |
25. Formal Translation When he finished making the burnt offering, Jehu said to the runners and to the officers, “Go in, strike them down; let none escape.” They struck them with the edge of the sword, and the runners and the officers cast the bodies out and went to the inner part of the house of Baal. |
25. Dynamic Translation As soon as he completed the burnt sacrifice, Jehu told the guards and commanders, “Go in and kill them; do not let anyone get out.” They killed them with the sword, and the guards and commanders dragged the bodies out and entered the inner area of Baal’s temple. |
