Exegesis

The prepositional phrase bearei {בְּעָרֵי | bə-ʿārê} ‘in the cities of’ governs Shomron (‘Samaria’), while the spatial relation tachat {תַּחַת | taḥat} ‘instead of’ combined with bnei Yisrael (‘sons of Israel’) expresses substitution.
