| 4. Formal Translation But the king of Assyria discovered a conspiracy in Hoshea, for he had sent messengers to So, king of Egypt, and had not brought tribute to the king of Assyria as in previous years. So the king of Assyria restrained him and imprisoned him in a house of confinement. |
| 4. Dynamic Translation But the king of Assyria learned that Hoshea was plotting, because he had sent envoys to So, king of Egypt, and had stopped paying tribute to the king of Assyria every year. So the king of Assyria seized Hoshea and threw him into prison. |
