The verse employs a series of Waw-consecutive verbs (הֵסִיר hesir {הֵסִיר | hēsîr} “he removed,” שִׁבַּר shibbar {שִׁבַּר | šibbār} “he broke,” כָּרַת karat {כָּרַת | kārat} “he cut down,” כִּתַּת kittat {כִּתַּת | kiṭṭat} “he shattered”) to present a tightly linked sequence of iconoclastic reforms.
