1. Formal Translation
And it happened at the turn of the year, at the time when kings go out to battle, that David sent Joab and his officers with him and all Israel; they destroyed the sons of Ammon and besieged Rabbah. But David was staying in Jerusalem.
1. Dynamic Translation
When the year came around again, in the season when kings usually went out to battle, David sent Joab, his officers, and all of Israel’s army. They defeated the Ammonites and laid siege to Rabbah. But David stayed behind in Jerusalem.
