A second genitive absolute, epithentos {ἐπιθέντος | e-pi-thén-tos} epi {ἐπὶ | e-pì} ten pyran {τὴν πυράν | tḕn py-rán}, adds a successive action, “when he had put them on the fire,” before the narrative reaches the main clause.
