7. Formal Translation The king cried out powerfully to bring in the enchanters, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. Then the king answered and said to the wise men of Babylon, “Whoever reads this writing and shows me its interpretation shall be clothed in purple and have a chain of gold upon his neck, and shall rule as third in the kingdom.” |
7. Dynamic Translation The king called aloud and ordered that the enchanters, the Chaldeans, and the magicians be brought in. Then he spoke to Babylon’s wise men: “Anyone who can read this message and explain its meaning to me will be dressed in royal purple and receive a gold chain around his neck, and will become the third highest ruler in the realm.” |
