1 And it will be when you come into the land that the LORD your God {YHWH Elohecha, Covenant Fulfiller} is giving you as an inheritance {nachalah: perpetual possession}, and you possess it and settle in it.
2 And you shall take from the first {reshith: best portion} of all the fruit of the ground that you bring from your land, which the LORD your God {YHWH Elohekha, Covenant Provider} gives you, and you shall put it in a basket and go to the place that the LORD your God will choose to cause His name to dwell there.
3 And you shall go to the priest who will be serving in those days and say to him, “I declare today to the LORD your God {YHWH Elohekha, Covenant Witness} that I have come to the land {erets: promised territory} which the LORD swore to our fathers to give us.”
4 Then the priest {kohen: appointed minister} shall take the basket from your hand and set it down before the altar of the LORD your God {YHWH Elohekha, Covenant Holder}.
5 Then you shall respond and say before the LORD your God {YHWH Eloheicha, Promise Keeper} “My father was a wandering Aramean who went down to Egypt and sojourned there, few in number {me’at: small number}, and there he became a great, mighty, and populous nation.”
6 The Egyptians did evil to us and afflicted us {vay’anunu: inflicted relentless suffering}, and they laid upon us hard labor {avodah: forced service}.
7 And we cried out to the LORD, the God of our fathers {YHWH Elohei avoteinu, Hearer of Cries}, and the LORD heard our voice {koleinu: humble plea} and saw our affliction and our toil and our oppression.
8 And the LORD {YHWH, Powerful Deliverer} brought us out from Egypt by a strong hand {yad: symbol of authority} and by an outstretched arm, and by great terror, and by signs, and by wonders.
9 And He {YHWH, Covenant Fulfiller} brought us to this place, and He gave us this land, a land flowing {zavat: abundant} with milk and honey.
10 And now, behold, I have brought the first {reshit: beginning portion} of the fruit of the ground which You have given me, LORD {YHWH, Covenant Provider}. Then you shall set it before the LORD your God and bow down before the LORD your God.
11 And you shall rejoice in all the good {tov: good gifts} which the LORD your God {YHWH Eloheikha, Covenant Blessing-Giver} has given to you and to your household, you, the Levite, and the sojourner who is among you.
12 When you finish tithing all the tithe {ma‘asar: tenth portion} of your produce in the third year, the year of the tithe, then you shall give it to the Levite {Levi: covenant servant}, to the sojourner, to the orphan, and to the widow, so that they may eat within your gates and be satisfied.
13 And you shall declare before the LORD your God {YHWH Eloheikha, Covenant Witness}, “I have removed the sacred portion from my house and have also given it to the Levite, the sojourner, the orphan, and the widow, in accordance with all your commandments {mitzvot: binding instructions} which you commanded me. I have not transgressed any of your commandments nor have I forgotten.”
14 I did not eat any of it while in my mourning {oni: state of grief}, nor did I remove any of it while unclean, nor did I give any of it for the dead. I listened to the voice of the LORD my God {YHWH Elohai, Covenant Law-Giver}; I have done according to all that you have commanded me.
15 Look down from the dwelling place of Your {YHWH, Sovereign Ruler} holiness in the heavens, and bless Your people Israel {Yisrael: covenant nation} and the land that You have given to us, just as You have sworn to our fathers—a land flowing with milk and honey.
16 This day, the LORD your God {YHWH Eloheicha, Covenant Commander} is commanding you to do these statutes and ordinances; and you shall keep and do them with all your heart {levav: seat of will} and with all your soul.
17 You have declared the LORD {YHWH, Covenant-Maker} this day to be your God and to walk in His ways, to keep His statutes {chukkav: binding ordinances}, His commandments and His judgments, and to listen to His voice.
18 And the LORD {YHWH, Covenant Upholder} has declared you this day to be His people {segulah: unique possession}, just as He spoke to you, and to keep all His commandments.
19 And to set you high above all the nations which He has made, for praise, a name, and glory {tiferet: admired excellence}, and so that you may be a people holy to the LORD your God {YHWH Eloheikha, Covenant Exalter} just as He has spoken.
