8. Formal Translation There is one person, with no second—neither son nor brother does he have; yet there is no end to all his labor, and his eye is not satisfied with riches. Yet he does not say, “For whom do I toil and deprive my soul of good?” This too is vanity, and it is an evil preoccupation. |
8. Dynamic Translation Someone may live completely alone, without even a son or brother, yet he never stops working hard, and his eyes are never content with wealth. Yet he never asks, “For whom am I toiling, and why am I depriving myself of good?” This also is meaningless and a miserable pursuit. |
