The covenant declaration vehayiti lahem le'elohim {וְהָיִיתִי לָהֶם לֵאלֹהִים | wə-hā-yî-ṯî lā-hem lē-ʾĕ-lō-hîm} ‘and I will be to them for God’ asserts a defining relational bond.
