Exegesis
A rapid succession of five wayyiqtol verbs—vayarats {וַיָּרָץ | wə-yā-rāṣ} ‘and he ran’, vayechabeq-lo {וַיְחַבֵּק־לוֹ | wə-ḥab-bēq-lô} ‘and he embraced him’, vayinasheq-lo {וַיְנַשֵּׁק־ל֔וֹ | wə-nā-šēq-lô} ‘and he kissed him’, vayevi’ehu {וַיְבִיאֵהוּ | wə-ḇî-’ê-hû} ‘and he brought him’, and vayesapper {וַיְסַפֵּר | wə-sap-pēr} ‘and he recounted’—builds narrative momentum and highlights Laban’s hospitable zeal.
