| 9. Formal Translation Onan knew that the seed would not be his, and whenever he went in to his brother’s wife, he wasted it on the ground so that he would not give offspring to his brother. |
| 9. Dynamic Translation Onan realized that the child would not be counted as his, so each time he slept with his brother’s wife he spilled it on the ground, refusing to give a child to his brother. |
