1 And the word of the LORD {YHWH, Message Giver} came to Jeremiah a second time, while he was still confined in the court of the guard, saying {le-mor: introducing direct speech}.
2 Thus says the LORD {YHWH, Creator and Sustainer}, the Maker {oseh: Sustaining Maker} of it, the LORD who formed it to establish it—LORD is His name.
3 Call to Me {Elay: direct appeal}, and I will answer you, and I will declare to you great things {gedolot: exceedingly important} and hidden things which you have not known.
4 For thus says the LORD {YHWH, National Judge}, the God of Israel {Elohei Yisrael, Covenant Protector}, concerning the houses of this city and of the kings of Judah that are broken down to the siege-mounds and to the sword.
5 They are coming to fight against the Chaldeans, and to fill them with the corpses of the men whom I {YHWH, Divine Judge} struck down in my anger and in my wrath, and for whom I have hidden My face {panai: turning away as judgment} from this city because of all their evil.
6 Behold, I {YHWH, Promise Giver} am bringing to her healing and cure, and I will heal them, and I will reveal to them an abundance of peace {shalom: holistic well-being} and truth.
7 And I {YHWH, Restorer of Exiles} will restore the captivity {shevut: forced exile} of Judah and the captivity of Israel, and I will build them as at the first.
8 And I {ani: divine speaker} will purify them from all their iniquity {avonam: moral guilt}, by which they have sinned against Me; and I will forgive all their iniquities, by which they have sinned against Me and by which they have rebelled against Me.
9 And it will be for Me {YHWH, Sovereign Benefactor} a name of joy, praise, and glory before all the nations of the earth who hear all the good which I am doing for them. And they will fear and tremble at all the good and all the peace {shalom: wholeness} that I am doing for her.
10 Thus says the LORD {YHWH, Faithful Restorer}: Again there shall be heard in this place which you say is desolate {charev: laid waste}, without man and without animal, in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem which lie desolate, without man, without inhabitant, and without animal—there shall again be heard.
11 The voice of joy {sason: burst of celebration} and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the voice of those who say, “Give thanks to the LORD of hosts {YHWH Tsevaot, Divine Commander}, for the LORD {YHWH, Faithful Restorer} is good; for His lovingkindness endures forever.” Those who bring a thank offering into the house of the LORD. For I will restore the fortunes of the land as at the first,” says the LORD.
12 Thus says the LORD of hosts {YHWH Tsevaot, Commander of Armies}: Again there will be in this place, which is desolate without man and without beast, and in all its cities, a dwelling for shepherds causing their flocks to rest {marbitzim: lead to lie down}.
13 In the cities of the hill country, in the cities of the lowland {hashefela: coastal plain}, in the cities of the Negev, in the land of Benjamin, in the surroundings of Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, flocks shall once again pass under the hands of the one who counts them, says the LORD {YHWH, Faithful Restorer}.
14 Behold, days are coming—declares the LORD {YHWH, Promise Fulfiller}—when I will establish the good word {davar: divine message} that I have spoken to the house of Israel and to the house of Judah.
15 In those days and at that time, I {YHWH, Promise-Keeper} will cause a righteous branch to sprout for David, and he will enact justice and righteousness {tsedaqah: covenant faithfulness} in the land.
16 In those days Judah {yehudah: southern kingdom} will be saved, and Jerusalem will dwell securely. And this is the name by which she will be called: the LORD our Righteousness {YHWH Tsidkenu, Justice Provider}.
17 For thus says the LORD {YHWH, Covenant Promise-Giver}: David shall never lack a man {ish: male descendant} seated on the throne of the house of Israel.
18 And for the priests, the Levites, there will never be cut off a man from before Me {YHWH, Sanctuary Witness} who offers burnt offerings, who burns grain offerings, and who performs sacrifices all the days {kol-hay-yā-mîm: continually}.
19 And the word of the LORD {YHWH, Oracle Proclaimer} came to Jeremiah {Yirmeyahu: Yahweh exalts}, saying.
20 Thus says the LORD {YHWH, Covenant Upholder}: "If you can break my covenant with the day and my covenant with the night, so that day and night will not occur at their appointed time {be-ittam: fixed cycle}."
21 Then My {YHWH, Covenant-Maker} covenant {berit: binding promise} could be broken with My servant David, so that he will have no son reigning on his throne, and with the Levites the priests, My ministers.
22 Just as the host {tseva: cosmic army} of the heavens cannot be counted and the sand of the sea cannot be measured, so I {YHWH, Covenant-Keeper} will multiply the offspring of David my servant and the Levites who minister to Me.
23 And the word of the LORD {YHWH, Message Giver} came to Jeremiah {Yirmeyahu: Yahweh Will Uplift}, saying,
24 Have you not seen what this people have spoken, saying, “The two families which the LORD {YHWH, Covenant Chooser} chose, He has even rejected them?” And so they despise My people {ammi: covenant nation}, so that they are no longer a nation before them.
25 Thus says the LORD {YHWH, Covenant Upholder}: “If my covenant {berit: binding agreement} with day and night does not exist, and if I have not appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth;”
26 Then I will also cast off the offspring {zera: covenant descendants} of Jacob and my servant David, and will not appoint any of their descendants as rulers over the offspring of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; for I will restore their captivity {shevut: forced removal} and have compassion on them.
