The verse opens with the negative formula velo {וְלֹֽא | wə-lōʼ} + avo {אָב֤וּ | ā-vû} marking refusal before the indirect object lo {ל֔וֹ | lō} in the infinitive clause lishmo’a {לִשְׁמֹ֣עַֽ | li-šmə-’ā‘} “to listen.”
