25. Formal Translation And I contended with them and cursed them, and I struck some of the men and pulled out their hair, and made them swear by God {Elohim, Supreme Judge}, “You shall not give your daughters to their sons, nor shall you take any of their daughters for your sons or for yourselves.” |
25. Dynamic Translation I confronted them, called down curses on them, beat a number of the men, and pulled out their hair. I made them promise before God {Elohim, Divine Authority}, “You must not let your daughters marry their sons, and you must not marry their daughters, either for your sons or for yourselves.” |
