3. Formal Translation And he read from it in the public square in front of the Water Gate, from first light until midday, before the men, the women, and those who could understand; and all the people listened attentively to the Book of the Law. |
3. Dynamic Translation From daybreak until noon, he read aloud in the open square before the Water Gate, with men, women, and all who could understand listening closely; and the whole crowd gave careful attention to the scroll. |
