Discipleship and Spiritual Formation in the Christianity are two essential components of the Christian faith. As disciples of Jesus, we are called to follow Him and to help others do the same. Through discipleship, we learn the importance of a life with God and how to live in communion with Him. Spiritual formation involves learning to be like Jesus, to be conformed to His image and to grow in the knowledge of Him.
The Bible is clear that Christians are called to be disciples of Jesus and to follow Him. Jesus said, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me” (Matthew 16:24). Jesus also said, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19). This command is clear: As Christians, we are called to go out and make disciples of all nations.
Being a disciple of Jesus is not just about following rules. It is about entering into a relationship with Him and being transformed by His grace and love. Discipleship is about living in a way that is pleasing to God, about learning to be like Jesus, and about living in obedience to His will. We are also called to share the Gospel with others. This is done by living a life that is reflective of Jesus’ character and by being a witness to the truth of the Gospel.
Spiritual formation is the process of being transformed into the likeness of Jesus. It involves a deep and intimate relationship with God, through which we can gain knowledge of Him and grow in our understanding of who He is and what He desires for us. We learn to walk in His ways and to become more like Him. We learn to have a heart that is devoted to God and to be obedient to His commands.
Through discipleship and spiritual formation, we become more like Jesus and more deeply connected to Him. As we grow in our knowledge of Him, we will also become more effective in our witness to others. We learn to look for opportunities to share His love and to make disciples. We also learn to serve others and to be vessels of His grace and mercy.
