Concept Of Extended Family
The Bible speaks of the importance of family and the value of extended family relationships. In the Bible, extended family is defined as a group of people related by blood or marriage, including grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives. The Bible encourages us to honor and respect our extended family members, and to treat them with love and kindness.
Honoring Parents
One of the most important aspects of extended family in Christianity is honoring our parents. The Bible says in Exodus 20:12, “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.” This commandment is repeated in Deuteronomy 5:16 and is a reminder to us that honoring our parents is an important part of our faith.
Caring for Relatives
The Bible also speaks of the importance of caring for our extended family members. In 1 Timothy 5:8, Paul writes, “But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.” This verse reminds us that we should be willing to provide for our extended family members and show them love and kindness.
Sharing the Gospel
The Bible also encourages us to share the gospel with our extended family members. In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus tells us to “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” This verse reminds us that we should be willing to share the gospel with our extended family members and help them come to know Jesus.
