The Bible says in Proverbs 11:5, “The righteousness of the upright will deliver them, but the unfaithful will be caught in their own devices.”
What Does the Bible Say about Righteousness?
The Bible is full of passages that speak to the importance of righteousness and the rewards that come from living a life according to God’s laws and commands. In Romans 8:1-4, Paul says, “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”

In Matthew 5:6, Jesus says, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.”
What is the Difference Between Righteousness and Right-Doing?
Righteousness and right-doing are often used interchangeably, however, there is a distinct difference between the two. Righteousness is an attitude of being in line with God’s laws and commands and striving to live a life that honors Him. Right-doing is the outward expression of that attitude, the action of living an obedient life. In other words, righteousness is the attitude of living a godly life while right-doing is the action of living a godly life.
How Can We Pursue Righteousness?
Pursuing righteousness is something that we can do daily. We can start by reading and studying God’s Word and striving to live according to it. We can also pray and ask for God’s help in living a life that honors Him. We can seek out godly mentors and examples to follow. Finally, we can practice obedience to God’s commands and strive to honor Him in all that we do.
