Exegesis
The transition ve- in veaḥărêhem paqad {וְאַחֲרֵיהֶם פָּקַד | vәaḥărêhem pǎqǎd} ‘and after them he mustered’ introduces the muster of kol hā‘ām kol bənê Yisra’ēl šiv‘at ʾālāp̄îm {כָּל־הָעָם כָּל־בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל שִׁבְעַת אֲלָפִים | kol hā‘ām kol bənê Yisra’ēl šiv‘at ʾālāp̄îm} ‘all the people, all the sons of Israel, seven thousand’. English omits the particle et, preserves SVO order, and retains emphasis on social ranks and precise enumeration.
In context — 1 Kings 20:15
And he mustered the young men of the commanders of the provinces , and they numbered 232; and after them he mustered all the people, all the sons of Israel , 7,000.
