Exegesis

The opening verb wayyabou {וַיָּבֹאוּ | wayyāḇōʾû} ‘and they came’ pairs with wayyeshvu {וַיֵּשְׁבוּ | wayyēšbû} ‘and they sat’, marking the arrival and positioning of the witnesses bnei-beliyaal {בְּנֵי־בְלִיַּעַל | bənê-bəlîyaʿal} ‘sons of worthlessness’ and anshei-beliyaal {אַנְשֵׁי־הַבְּלִיַּעַל | ʾănšê-həbəlīyaʿal} ‘men of worthlessness’.
