Exegesis

The narrative opens with three vav-consecutive Qal imperfect verbs—vayya’amod {וַֽיַּעֲמֹד | wayyaʿă·mōḏ}, vayyikra {וַיִּקְרָא | wayyiq·rāʾ}, and vayyomer {וַיֹּאמֶר | wayyōmer}—which drive the action forward.
