Exegesis

The coordinated conjunction va’ani khaser lo hibbē’tti {וַאֲנִי חָסֵר לֹא הִבֵּאתִי | wa-ʾăn-î ḥā-sēr lōʾ hib-bē-ʾ-tî} ‘and I, lacking, did not bring’ uses the first person perfect to convey David’s admission of unpreparedness.
