7. Formal Translation The men of Ashdod saw that it was so, and they said, “The ark of the God of Israel {Yahweh Elohei Yisrael, Mighty Judge} shall not remain with us, for His hand is severe upon us and upon Dagon our god.” |
7. Dynamic Translation When the people of Ashdod saw what was happening, they said, “The ark of Israel’s God {Yahweh Elohei Yisrael, National Defender} cannot stay here with us, because His hand is heavy against us and against Dagon, our god.” |
