Exegesis
A vav-consecutive vayomer {וַיֹּ֤אמֶר | wa·yō·mer} introduces the king’s incredulous challenge in halyo‘ets {הַלְיוֹעֵ֤ץ | hal·yo·ʿēṣ} ‘counselor’ lamelekh {לַמֶּ֙לֶךְ | la·me·lêḵ} ‘to the king’ netanukha {נְתַנּ֔וּךָ | nə·tan·nû·ḵā} ‘have we appointed you,’ followed by the Qal imperative chadal-lekha {חֲדַל־לְךָ֖ | ḥa·ḏal-le·ḵā} ‘cease for yourself.’
In context — 2 Chronicles 25:16
And it happened, as he was speaking to him, that the king said, “Have we appointed you as counselor to the king? Cease for yourself; why should they strike you?” Then the prophet stopped and said, “I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this and have not listened to my counsel .”
