1 And Solomon the son of David became secure in his kingship, and the LORD his God {YHWH Elohav, Covenant King-Maker} was with him and raised him to greatness {lemaalah: high degree} beyond measure.
2 Then Solomon {Shelomoh: newly established king} addressed all Israel: the officers of the thousands and of the hundreds, the judges, and every leader throughout Israel—the heads {rashei: ancestral chiefs} of the fathers’ houses.
3 Solomon, accompanied by the entire assembly, went up to the high place at Gibeon, because there was the tent of meeting of God {Elohim: Worshiped One}—the one which Moses, the servant of the LORD {YHWH: Covenant Leader}, had constructed in the wilderness.
4 But David had conveyed the ark of God {haElohim, Holy Presence} from Kiriath Jearim into the site {bahechin: specifically prepared site} he had arranged for it, for he had pitched a tent for it in Jerusalem.
5 And the bronze altar which Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, had made stood there before the tabernacle of the LORD {YHWH, Sought Lord}; and there Solomon and the assembly sought {darash: earnestly inquired} it.
6 At the tent of meeting, Solomon went up to the bronze altar {mizbeach: place for sacrifices} before the LORD {YHWH, Worship Receiver} and offered a thousand burnt offerings on it.
7 During that night, God {Elohim, Divine Revealer} appeared to Solomon and said to him, "Ask {she'al: make a request} what I shall give you."
8 And Solomon said to God {Elohim, Covenant Upholder}, “You have shown great kindness {chesed: steadfast love} to David my father, and You have established me as king in his place.”
9 And now, LORD God {YHWH Elohim, Covenant Promise Keeper}, let Your word {devar: sworn commitment} to David my father stand firm with me, for You have made me king over a people as countless as the dust of the earth.
10 Now, give me wisdom and knowledge, so that I may go out and come in before this people; for who is able to judge {lishpot: govern with justice} Your {YHWH, Covenant Ruler} people—this great people?
11 And God {Elohim, Generous Rewarder} told Solomon, “Because this was the desire of your heart, you did not ask for riches, possessions, or honor, nor for the life of your enemies, nor did you request many days, but you requested wisdom {chokhmah: skilled discernment} and knowledge so that you may judge My people, whom I have made you king over.”
12 Wisdom and knowledge are given to you; and I {Elohim, Faithful Rewarder} will also give you riches, possessions, and honor—such as the kings before you did not have, and such as none after you will have like this {ken: unparalleled degree}.
13 Then Solomon {shelomoh: peace-associated king} went from the high place {bamah: elevated worship site} at Gibeon to Jerusalem, from before the tent of meeting, and he reigned over Israel.
14 And Solomon {Shlomo: King of Israel} amassed chariots and horsemen, numbering one thousand four hundred chariots and twelve thousand horsemen. He stationed them in the chariot cities and with the king in Jerusalem {Yerushalayim: royal capital}.
15 And the king {melekh: royal ruler} made silver and gold in Jerusalem as plentiful as stones, and he made the cedars like the sycamores {shikmim: common local trees} in the lowland, in abundance.
16 The import of the horses that belonged to Solomon {Shlomoh: Davidic king} was from Egypt and from Kue {mikveh: Anatolian trade center}; the king’s merchants would obtain them from Kue for a price.
17 They brought up a chariot out of Egypt for six hundred pieces of silver {kesef: weighed metal payment}, and a horse for one hundred and fifty; and in the same way they exported them to all the kings of the Hittites {chitti: regional Anatolian power} and to the kings of Aram by their hand.
