The Qal imperfect vayyipqēḏēm {וַֽיִּפְקְדֵ֗ם | vayyipqēḏēm} ‘and he mustered them’ is followed by the temporal expression lə-miḇben ’eśrîm šā-nāh wā-ma‘ālāh {לְמִבֶּן עֶשְׂרִים שָׁנָה וָמַעְלָה | lə-miḇben ’eśrîm šā-nāh wā-ma‘ālāh} ‘from twenty years old and upward’, defining the age criteria.
