Exegesis

The narrative employs three sequential vav-prefixed verbs: vayavo {וַיָּבֹא | vá-ya-vô} ‘and he came’, vayeshev {וַיֵּשֶׁב | vá-ye-šêḇ} ‘and he settled’, and vayehi {וַיְהִי | vá-ye-hî} ‘and he became’, marking procession of events.
