Source Text: Hebrew (WLC) 2 Kings 7:4:1 ⧉אִם־אָמַרְנוּ֩imomarnuif we have said 2 Kings 7:4:2 ⧉נָב֨וֹאnavolet us enter 2 Kings 7:4:3 ⧉הָעִ֜ירhairthe city 2 Kings 7:4:4 ⧉וְהָרָעָ֤בveharaavand the famine 2 Kings 7:4:5 ⧉בָּעִיר֙bairis in the city 2 Kings 7:4:6 ⧉וָמַ֣תְנוּvamatnuand we will die 2 Kings 7:4:7 ⧉שָׁ֔םshamthere 2 Kings 7:4:8 ⧉וְאִם־יָשַׁ֥בְנוּveimyashavnuand if we sit 2 Kings 7:4:9 ⧉פֹ֖הpohere 2 Kings 7:4:10 ⧉וָמָ֑תְנוּvamatnuthen we will die 2 Kings 7:4:11 ⧉וְעַתָּ֗הveataand now 2 Kings 7:4:12 ⧉לְכוּ֙lekhugo 2 Kings 7:4:13 ⧉וְנִפְּלָה֙veniplaand let us fall 2 Kings 7:4:14 ⧉אֶל־מַחֲנֵ֣הelmakhaneto the camp of 2 Kings 7:4:15 ⧉אֲרָ֔םaramAram 2 Kings 7:4:16 ⧉אִם־יְחַיֻּ֣נוּimyekhayunuif they keep us alive 2 Kings 7:4:17 ⧉נִֽחְיֶ֔הnikhyewe will live 2 Kings 7:4:18 ⧉וְאִם־יְמִיתֻ֖נוּveimyemitunuand if they put us to death 2 Kings 7:4:19 ⧉וָמָֽתְנוּ׃vamatnuthen we will die |
4. Formal Translation If we say, “We will go into the city,” and the famine is in the city and we die there; and if we sit here, then we die; and now, come, let us go over to the camp of Aram; if they let us live, we shall live; but if they kill us, we shall die. |
4. Dynamic Translation If we say, “Let us go into the city,” we will die there because of the famine. If we stay here, we will die too. Now let us surrender to the Aramean camp; if they spare us, we will live, but if they kill us, we will die. |
