2 Samuel 12:22:1וַיֹּ֕אמֶרvayomerand he said
2 Samuel 12:22:2בְּעוֹד֙beodwhile still 2 Samuel 12:22:3הַיֶּ֣לֶדhayeledthe child 2 Samuel 12:22:4חַ֔יkhaialive 2 Samuel 12:22:5צַ֖מְתִּיtsamtiI fasted 2 Samuel 12:22:6וָֽאֶבְכֶּ֑הvaevkeand I wept 2 Samuel 12:22:7כִּ֤יkifor 2 Samuel 12:22:8אָמַ֙רְתִּי֙amartiI said 2 Samuel 12:22:9מִ֣יmiwho 2 Samuel 12:22:10יוֹדֵ֔עַyodeaknows 2 Samuel 12:22:11יחנניyekhanenihe will be gracious to me 2 Samuel 12:22:12וְחַנַּ֥נִיvekhananiand has been gracious to me 2 Samuel 12:22:13יְהוָ֖הyahwehthe LORD 2 Samuel 12:22:14וְחַ֥יvekhaiand lives 2 Samuel 12:22:15הַיָּֽלֶד׃hayaledthe child
22. Formal Translation
And he said, “While the child was alive, I fasted and wept, for I said, ‘Who knows if the LORD {Yahweh, Mercy Giver} may show favor to me and let the child live?’”
22. Dynamic Translation
He replied, “As long as the child was alive, I kept fasting and crying, because I thought, ‘Who can tell if the LORD {Yahweh, Compassionate Helper} might be kind to me and let my child live?’”
