Formal Translation And David sent out the people who were with him, dividing them into thirds: a third under the hand of Joab, a third under the hand of Abishai the son of Zeruiah, Joab’s brother, and a third under the hand of Ittai the Gittite. Then the king said to the people, “I myself will surely go out with you.” |
| 2. Dynamic Translation David sent out his forces and arranged them into three groups. He placed one group under Joab’s command, another under Abishai son of Zeruiah (Joab’s brother), and the last under Ittai the Gittite. Then the king told his people, “I too will go out with you.” |
