15. Formal Translation
And they came and besieged him at Abel Beth Maakah, and they built up a siege ramp against the city, and it stood at the outer defenses. And all the people who were with Joab battered the wall to break it down {wall: chomah, fortified barrier} {siege ramp: solelah, attacking embankment}.
15. Dynamic Translation
So they arrived and encircled Abel Beth Maakah, constructing an earthen ramp up to the city where it rested against the outer wall. Everyone with Joab worked to tear down the wall {defenses: chomah, protective barrier} {ramp: solelah, earth embankment}.
