| 1. Formal Translation Now it came to pass in the days of David that there was a famine for three years, year after year; and David sought the face of the LORD {Yahweh, Covenant Judge}. The LORD said, “It is on account of Saul and of the house of blood, because he put the Gibeonites to death.” |
| 1. Dynamic Translation During David’s reign, a famine struck for three successive years, so David asked the LORD {Yahweh, Righteous Arbiter} for guidance. The LORD answered, “It is on account of Saul and his bloodstained family, because he killed the Gibeonites.” |
