| 2. Formal Translation And the king summoned the Gibeonites and spoke to them. The Gibeonites were not of the descendants of Israel but of the remnant of the Amorites. The people of Israel had sworn to them, yet Saul, in his zeal for the people of Israel and Judah, sought to strike them down. |
