2 Samuel 23 : 39 Inclusion | Enumeration | Climax
39. Linguistic Exegesis
The nominal sequence uriyyah haḥitti {אוּרִיָּה הַֽחִתִּ֔י | ʾû-rî-yyāh haḥîttî} introduces a verbless clause listing the final warrior. The numeral phrase kol sheloshim ve-shivah {כֹּל שְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים וְשִׁבְעָֽה | kôl šəlōšîm wə-šibˁâ} combines the collective noun kol with the compound cardinal sheloshim ve-shivah to state the complete count. Hebrew often omits the verb “to be” in existential statements, so English uses an expletive “there were” (formal) or an active “was included” (dynamic) to convey the clause. The paragraph marker pê {פ | pê} marks the end of this register unit.
