27. Formal Translation
When the jailer woke to find the prison doors open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself, assuming the prisoners had escaped.
27. Dynamic Translation
When the jailer woke up and caught sight of the prison doors standing open, he pulled out his sword, poised to end his own life because he believed the prisoners had fled.
