Exegesis
The shift to the present with ekballousin {ἐκβάλλουσιν | ek-bál-lou-sin} ‘they are casting out’ following kai nun lathrai {καὶ νῦν λάθρᾳ | kaí nûn lá-thrāi} ‘and now in secret’ forms a rhetorical question framed by the adversative ou gar alla {οὐ γάρ ἀλλὰ | ou gár al-là} to reject the covert dismissal.
In context — Acts 16:37
But Paul said to them, “They beat us in public without condemnation, even though we are Romans , and they threw us into prison. And now they are casting us out in secret? Not at all. Let them come themselves and lead us out.”
