Two participles describe his drowsiness: kataferomenos {καταφερόμενος | kataferómenos} (present) with hypnō bathei {ὕπνῳ βαθεῖ | húpnō batheî} “by deep sleep” portrays an ongoing process of being overcome, while katenektheis {κατενεχθεὶς | katenektheís} (aorist) later marks the decisive moment when sleep fully overtakes him.
