Exegesis

The clause concludes with kai ērtē nekros {καὶ ἤρθη νεκρός | kaí ḗrthē nekrós}, a passive “he was taken up dead,” which reports the condition in which others found him. English rendering maintains the participial sequencing by using temporal and circumstantial clauses (“being overcome,” “as Paul was speaking,” “having been overcome”), thereby preserving the Greek progression from setting, to gradual drowsiness, to sudden fall, and final result.
