The explanatory clause echei gar apangeilai ti autō {ἔχει γὰρ ἀπαγγεῖλαί τι αὐτῷ | É-khei gar a-pan-GEI-lai ti au-TŌ} uses echei with an infinitive to form a periphrastic construction expressing obligation or necessity, literally “he has to report something to him,” with gar {γὰρ | gar} providing the rationale for the preceding command.
