The explanatory clause echei gar apangeilai ti autō {ἔχει γὰρ ἀπαγγεῖλαί τι αὐτῷ | É-khei gar a-pan-GEI-lai ti au-TŌ} uses echei with an infinitive to form a periphrastic construction expressing obligation or necessity, literally “he has to report something to him,” with gar {γὰρ | gar} providing the rationale for the preceding command. In rendering this into English, the participial opening is converted into a finite verb (“called”) for natural flow, while the sequence of clauses and the prominence of “this young man” before the imperative are preserved to convey Paul’s deliberate initiative and the importance of the message the young man carries.
