Exegesis

This is followed by the aorist middle infinitive sygkalesasthai {συγκαλέσασθαι | sygkalésasthai} in the clause sygkalesasthai auton tous ontas tōn Ioudaiōn prōtous {συγκαλέσασθαι αὐτὸν τοὺς ὄντας τῶν Ἰουδαίων πρώτους | sygkalésasthai autòn toùs óntas tôn Ioudaíōn prṓtous}, an epexegetical infinitive that explains what “happened.” The accusative subject of the infinitive, tous ontas tōn Ioudaiōn prōtous, identifies “those who were first among the Jews,” that is, the leading Jewish figures.
