The verse opens with the conditional phrase ei de ek theou estin {εἰ δὲ ἐκ θεοῦ ἐστιν | ei de ek theou estin} ‘but if it is from God’, where the postpositive de links Gamaliel’s remark to the preceding debate and ei introduces a protasis.
Finally, epeisthēsan de autō {ἐπείσθησαν δὲ αὐτῷ | e-peís-thē-san dé au-tôi} ‘and they were persuaded by him’ employs a dative of agent with a passive verb to report the council’s capitulation.
