In the next clause the focus shifts to the southern king introduced by u-melekh han-negoḇ yitgareh la-milḥamah {וּמֶ֣לֶךְ הַנֶּגֶב יִתְגָּרֶה֙ לַמִּלְחָמָ֔ה | u-me-leḵ han-nė-gev yit-ga-reh la-mil-ḥā-māh} ‘and the king of the south shall wage war,’ where the Hithpael stem conveys an intensive or reflexive action of engaging in battle.
