Treat human authority as if it never matters

Hold power lightly and seek God's will above your own

If you would like to receive Jesus, pray this with me: Lord Jesus, I have tried to rule my life by my own desires. I confess my sin and my need for your mercy. I believe you died for my sins and rose again. I turn from my self-will and receive you as my Lord and Savior. Lead me under your good and mighty rule. Amen.

Surrender My Own Will

Lord, revive your Church where we have sought influence for ourselves. Make us a people who bow to your rule, refuse proud self-will, and use any power we have for your glory and the good of others. Awaken us to live under Jesus’ lordship with humility and courage, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Renew Your Church Under Jesus' Lordship

Father, thank you that every earthly king and every human plan is limited, but your purposes are not. Thank you for warning us not to trust human power, and for calling us to a better way than self-rule, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Thank You for Your Higher Rule

Pray by naming one area where you are tempted to insist on your own way. Ask God to show you where your plans need to yield, then ask for the strength to obey what he reveals.

Pray Through One Place You Want Control

Pray for the leaders, rulers, and decision-makers you know: that power would not harden them, that they would govern justly, and that they would not do whatever they please but what is right before God.

Pray for Leaders With Power

Bring before God any pride, control, or self-rule you are clinging to; a desire to use power for yourself; and a willingness to submit your choices to his will.

Lay Down Self-Will
