Deuteronomy 1:17:1לֹֽא־תַכִּ֨ירוּlotakiruYou shall not show favoritism
Deuteronomy 1:17:2פָנִ֜יםfanimby faces {partiality} Deuteronomy 1:17:3בַּמִּשְׁפָּ֗טbamishpatin judgment Deuteronomy 1:17:4כַּקָּטֹ֤ןkakatonas the small Deuteronomy 1:17:5כַּגָּדֹל֙kagadolas the great Deuteronomy 1:17:6תִּשְׁמָע֔וּןtishmaunyou shall hear Deuteronomy 1:17:7לֹ֤אlonot Deuteronomy 1:17:8תָג֙וּרוּ֙tagurube intimidated Deuteronomy 1:17:9מִפְּנֵי־אִ֔ישׁmipneiishfrom before any man Deuteronomy 1:17:10כִּ֥יkifor Deuteronomy 1:17:11הַמִּשְׁפָּ֖טhamishpatthe judgment Deuteronomy 1:17:12לֵאלֹהִ֣יםleelohimis God's Deuteronomy 1:17:13ה֑וּאhuit is Deuteronomy 1:17:14וְהַדָּבָר֙vehadavarand the matter Deuteronomy 1:17:15אֲשֶׁ֣רasherthat Deuteronomy 1:17:16יִקְשֶׁ֣הyikshehis too hard Deuteronomy 1:17:17מִכֶּ֔םmikemfor you Deuteronomy 1:17:18תַּקְרִב֥וּןtakrivunyou shall bring Deuteronomy 1:17:19אֵלַ֖יelaito me Deuteronomy 1:17:20וּשְׁמַעְתִּֽיו׃ushmativuand I will hear it
17. Formal Translation
You shall not show partiality {panim: faces, external appearance} when judging; give equal consideration to the lesser and the greater alike. You shall not fear any person, for judgment belongs to God {Elohim, Supreme Judge}. Bring the matter that is too difficult for you to me, and I will hear it.
17. Dynamic Translation
Do not tilt your judgments in favor of anyone. Give the same hearing to the lowly and the influential. Do not be intimidated by any human face, because justice belongs to God {Elohim, Final Arbiter}. If a case is beyond you, bring it to me, and I will hear it.
