1 And it will happen, when all these things come upon you—the blessing and the curse that I have placed before you—and you take them to heart {levav: inner will and intention} among all the nations where the LORD your God {YHWH Eloheikha, Covenant Disciplinarian} has driven you.
2 And you will return to the LORD your God {YHWH Elohekha: Covenant Restorer} and obey His voice, in keeping with all that I command you today—you and your children—with all your heart {levav: center of emotion} and with all your soul.
3 Then the LORD your God {YHWH Eloheikha, Restorer and Redeemer} will restore your captivity {shevutkha: exiled state} and show you compassion, and He will turn back and gather you from all the nations where the LORD your God has scattered you.
4 Even if your outcasts {niddachakha: scattered exiles} are at the furthest extremity of the heavens, from there the LORD your God {YHWH Eloheikha, Gathering Redeemer} will gather you, and from there He will take you.
5 And the LORD your God {YHWH Eloheikha, Covenant Restorer} will bring you into the land that your fathers {avot: ancestral forebears} possessed, and you will possess it; He will do you good and increase you more than your fathers.
6 And the LORD your God {YHWH Eloheicha, Covenant Renewer} will circumcise your heart {levav: inner disposition} and the heart of your offspring, so that you may love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, so that you may live.
7 And the LORD your God {YHWH Elohecha, Covenant Avenger} will place all these curses {ha’alot: sworn judgments} upon your enemies and upon those who hate you, who have pursued you.
8 And you shall return and listen to the voice of the LORD {YHWH, Covenant Restorer}, and you shall carry out all His commandments {mitzvotav: binding instructions} that I command you today.
9 And the LORD your God {YHWH Elohekha, Covenant Restorer} will cause you to overflow in all the work {ma’aseh: Deeds and Efforts} of your hand, in the fruit of your womb, in the offspring of your livestock, and in the produce of your ground—for good; for the LORD will again rejoice over you for good, just as He rejoiced over your fathers.
10 For if you listen to the voice of the LORD your God {YHWH Eloheicha, Covenant Restorer} to keep His commandments {mitzvot: divine instructions} and His statutes that are written in this book of the law, and if you return to the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
11 For this commandment {mitzvah: binding instruction}, which I am commanding you today, is not too difficult {nifle’et: beyond your ability} for you, nor is it far from you.
12 It is not in the heavens {bashamayim: exalted realm} so that one should say {lemor: introducing objection}, “Who will go up for us to the heavens and bring it to us, and make us hear it, so that we may do it?”
13 And it is not on the other side of the sea {yam: barrier challenge}, so that someone should say, “Who will cross over for us to the opposite side of the sea and take it {yiqqacheha: seize and carry} for us and enable us to hear it, so that we may do it?”
14 For the word {hadavar: divine instruction} is very near you; it is on your lips and in your heart {levav: inner being} so that you may do it.
15 Observe, today I {Mosheh: covenant mediator} have placed before you life {chayim: enduring existence} and good, and death and evil.
16 This is what I command you today: love the LORD your God {YHWH Eloheicha, Covenant Giver}, walk in His ways, and keep His commandments, His statutes, and His judgments; then you will live and multiply, and the LORD your God will bless you in the land {eretz: inheritance territory} you are entering to possess.
17 But if your heart {levav: inner self} turns away and you do not listen, and you are drawn away and bow down to other gods {elohim: spiritual powers} and serve them.
18 I declare {higgadti: authoritative decree} to you today that you will surely perish, and you will not prolong your days in the land {haadamah: promised inheritance} you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess.
19 Today I call as witnesses {eidot: formal testimonies} the heavens and the earth against you; I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse; therefore choose life so that you and your offspring {zareka: future descendants} may live.
20 To love the LORD your God {YHWH Eloheikha, Personal Covenant God} and to listen to His voice and to cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days, that you may dwell {lashevet: settle permanently} on the land that the LORD swore to your fathers Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob to give them.
