14. Formal Translation But the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God {Yahweh Eloheikha, Covenant Sanctifier}; you shall not do any work on it—you, your son, your daughter, your male servant, your female servant, your ox, your donkey, any of your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates—so that your male servant and your female servant may rest as you do. |
14. Dynamic Translation The seventh day, however, is a rest day belonging to the LORD your God {Yahweh Eloheikha, Faithful Redeemer}. You must not work on that day: not you, not your son or daughter, not your male or female servant, not your ox or donkey, not any animal you own, and not the foreigner inside your gates. This allows your servants to rest, just as you do. |
