Source Text: Hebrew (WLC) Esther 3:2:1 ⧉וְכָל־עַבְדֵ֨יvekholavedeand all servants of Esther 3:2:2 ⧉הַמֶּ֜לֶךְhamelekhthe king Esther 3:2:3 ⧉אֲשֶׁר־בְּשַׁ֣עַרasherbeshaarwho were in the gate of Esther 3:2:4 ⧉הַמֶּ֗לֶךְhamelekhthe king Esther 3:2:5 ⧉כֹּרְעִ֤יםkoreimbowing down Esther 3:2:6 ⧉וּמִֽשְׁתַּחֲוִים֙umishtakhavimand prostrating themselves Esther 3:2:7 ⧉לְהָמָ֔ןlehamanto Haman Esther 3:2:8 ⧉כִּי־כֵ֖ןkikhenfor thus Esther 3:2:9 ⧉צִוָּה־ל֣וֹtsivalohe had commanded to him Esther 3:2:10 ⧉הַמֶּ֑לֶךְhamelekhthe king Esther 3:2:11 ⧉וּמָ֨רְדֳּכַ֔יumardokhaibut Mordecai Esther 3:2:12 ⧉לֹ֥אlonot Esther 3:2:13 ⧉יִכְרַ֖עyikhrahe would bow down Esther 3:2:14 ⧉וְלֹ֥אveloand not Esther 3:2:15 ⧉יִֽשְׁתַּחֲוֶֽה׃yishtakhavehe would prostrate himself |
2. Formal Translation And all the king’s servants who were at the king’s gate were bowing down and prostrating themselves to Haman, for thus the king had commanded concerning him; but Mordecai would not bow down or prostrate himself. |
2. Dynamic Translation All the king’s servants at the palace gate knelt and showed respect to Haman, because the king had commanded it. But Mordecai refused to kneel or bow low before him. |
