The verse begins with the conditional conjunction vechi {וְכִי | wə-ḵî} ‘and when’ introducing a casuistic protasis.
The Niphal imperfect yinnatsu {יִנָּצוּ | yi-nā-ṣû} ‘they fight’ is followed by the sequential perfect venagfu {וְנָגְפוּ | wə-nāg-pû} ‘they strike’.
